Read it somewhere before but can't seem to find the site again so I can't cite it.
Average website height: 500 - 800px
Average website width: < 1000px
Text on the web
keep to a average of 65 - 85 character per line (~495px)
with a line height of 1.5
According to http://www.wpdfd.com/issues/23/typography/
Increasing leading to 15 or 16 pt (or 130%) for the web and you'll see some dramatic improvement in readability.
When you use sans serif fonts, you should increase this value even more. These fonts lack the horizontal guidance that those little serifs provide and thus help the eye follow the textflow.
